Our Services

Our practice is situated in Garsfontein (Pretoria East). We provide the following services at our practice:

Early Intervention

For children under three years who are at risk of developing speech and/or language problems.

Articulation Therapy

A child might benefit from articulation therapy when he/she struggles to produce certain sounds.

Language Therapy

Language therapy is recommended when children’s language development is delayed or when their language skills prevent them from communicating effectively with others and learn from their environment.

Language-Learning Therapy

When children’s language skills have a negative impact on their ability to perform academically, they might benefit from language-learning therapy.

Auditory Processing Therapy

Auditory processing disorder (APD) is a sensory processing disorder which influences listening, speech, language and learning and it might be present even though a child has normal hearing. Children who have a history of middle ear infections are more prone to develop APD.

Voice Therapy

Vocal hygiene is very important. Some children might misuse their voice by talking too loudly. This could be a habitual issue, or due to the inability to monitor their own voice (often present in children with a hearing impairment or APD). It is therefore very important to make the child aware of the correct voice to use as continued misuse of the voice could cause polyps or nodules on the vocal cords.

Stuttering Therapy

Many children go through a phase of normal speech disfluencies early in their life. However, how the environment (thus, the child’s parents, siblings, friends and teachers) react to these disfluencies, might make the child over-aware of the disfluencies resulting “normal disfluencies” change into “abnormal disfluencies”. It is therefore very important to make the child’s communication partners aware of how to (and how not to) address any speech disfluencies the child might experience. There is a strong link between stuttering/disfluencies and emotional factors. Thus, a child who experienced a traumatic event (such as the death of a parent, grandparent or sibling or even moving to a new home or school) might also start to experience some speech disfluencies. If there is a family history of stuttering, one should take extra caution when the child presents with speech disfluencies.
